Day 4: First day at work

Today marks my first day at work! I am a visiting student from Korea, here at USC. I brought a handmade Korean rice wine as a gift for the professor. Thanks to my housemate, I was able to transport the heavy rice wine to school without difficulty, even in the rain. Before meeting with the professor, my housemate and I had breakfast on campus. I opted for a California roll, and I treated my housemate to a sandwich.

 

My first impression of the professor was incredibly warm. He greeted me with a big smile and a kind welcome. After being assigned a seat for the next three months, I began my work with my MacBook and iPad. Additionally, I kept in mind the places to avoid in LA based on the professor's advice. My colleagues and I exchanged greetings before heading to the campus restaurant for lunch. It felt like a food court. I ordered a burger with fries, but unfortunately, it wasn't very good.

 

I had the opportunity to explore the laboratory, including the wet lab and the Raman room. On my way home, it was still raining. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my stroll through the city, taking in the sights such as gardens, the science center, exposition park, and the stadium.

 

Unfortunately, I encountered a homeless person on my way home, which left me feeling uneasy. So, I hurried back home where I could feel safe and secure. I went to bed early since I was still adjusting to the time difference. I felt extremely tired due to lack of sleep, but overall, it was a really good day.
